Over the past year, we have been working closely with Tavistock Relationships to offer free couples therapy sessions to health and social care staff.

After spotting the information in a Trust communications newsletter, an NHS staff member decided to reach out.

“My partner and I had some areas we needed to discuss and some areas in our relationship we needed to work on. I suggested to my partner we needed to do this. We had five sessions and found it really helpful, it was a really positive experience for both of us, it has been helpful to keeping our relationship healthy.”

Reflecting on why couples therapy was beneficial to the relationship, they talked about finding a balance between work-life and personal life.

They said: “I have been working in the NHS since 2014, and in a managerial position for the last five years. It has never been easy, but since the Covid-19 pandemic, I felt I changed. It’s been tough, really tough, I felt tired a lot of the time. Situations that were impacted in the relationship were resolved and addressed with our psychotherapist who was brilliant.”

I think it's great what [The Keeping Well NWL Service] is offering. Having this therapy has made me grateful that we have this opportunity, it's given me a positive experience of the NHS.

From the mindfulness sessions, couples’ therapy, it’s a kind of health and wellbeing hub for all. Some might need mindfulness, or some may need to talk with someone, I would recommend the service to all colleagues.”

This testimonial refers to our recent offer of couples’ therapy through our collaboration with the Tavistock.  Funding for this offer has now come to an end, however there is still a range of support available for individuals and couples.
