It’s been almost a month since the government announced mandatory vaccination for any individual working in a care home providing nursing or personal care, or entering a care home (unless they are exempt). Find out more on the gov.uk website.

Keeping Well is committed to offering support and resources to help employers fully engage with their teams, including guidance on wellbeing and information on vaccines.

You can also access more support on our self-help resource page, including around stress, anxiety and needle phobia.

Stefani, Keeping Well Drug and Alcohol Practitioner, who is a general nurse by background and currently works as a clinical nurse specialist at Hillingdon Hospital answers the most common questions asked by staff working in a care home setting. Stefani works with many staff and patients from a BAME background and shares a bit about her experience around the vaccine uptake.

Skills for Care

Skills for Care provides guidance on how to support staff who regularly work alone. It includes a section on supporting mental health and wellbeing and on communication and support.

They have collated a range of resources to help care providers and local authorities in implementing these regulations and supporting their people through the change. This includes some practical case studies from organisations that have started to implement these changes already.
